I agree Mark, At first glance I thought it contained his RH partition
then I noticed that it only contained Mandrake. The other thing is I
think he made a mistake in mounting the Mandrake partition, if he didn't
create a directory in /mnt for Mandrake. I'm not sure he did.

I think it could be deleted, but I do not think it should be. If I
read the partition table correctly, hda1 is the extended partition that
holds hda5, hda6 & hda7 which are his Mandrake partitions. I think he
has Redhat on hda3 & hda4.
Do you agree?
So, he could delete hda1 AFTER deleting the Mandrake partitions, but
thee's no reason to do that since he wants to run both distributions,
and I think this is a GREAT learning exercise for him, if he has the
patience and desire to do so.
