installathin - Black Screen and no GUI

Dear fellow Linux users. Please bear with me but I experience problems with
Red Hat 8. I did a fresh installation on a P4 AMD Athlon XP 1.7 computer. It
got a onboard graphics chip so it makes use of the ram that is installed. I
created my partitions and all went fine through fdisk, got to the
installation and got stuck. It would not use the GUI interface, had to use
the text installation. OK did that but when it restarted and loaded GRUB it
gut stuck there. It detected my graphics card with no problem but when it
starts the x-system I get a black screen and a frozen computer with a alarm
that screams at me. I tried a PCI screen card but with no success. Got some
advice for me? It also told me that there is insufficient memory. But I got
256Mb installed. I really do not know how to get out of this one. I think
that Win XP is managed with much more ease.
