As another poster has noted, log in as "root" and use the password you
gave it.

Even though you are the only one using the machine, there is a very
good reason to have and use a "mere mortal" account.  As "root" you
are "God" and can do _anything_ (well, nearly).  That also means that if
root makes a mistake (sorry, root is not infallible), he makes a Very
Big Mistake.  As the old joke goes, "What is yellow and very
dangerous?  The root canary."

So make and use a mere mortal account, as that is the way the system
was designed.  The day you make a mistake as a mere mortal, you will
be much less unhappy.  Be root only when you _really_ need to.
