I had a similar problem with my system. Either one of two things fixed it for my system, I'm not sure exactly which one because I changed them both at the same time.
1) What format are you using with your hard drive? I recommend Fat32, or Ext3.
2) Are you installing all of the Linux RedHat 9.0 components? If you do, you are guaranteed to have a good installation, and you have 120 GB for it to roam around it! So go for it.
