Brian (or Becky)-

Red Hat makes 2 sets of CD ISO (images) available at 
<http://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/9/en/iso/i386/> (and any of 
several different mirrors).  1 of the sets are the SRPMs (which you say 
you downloaded).  This is NOT what you need to install the operating 
system.  These images actually contain the source code to the various 
packages that get installed.  You want to download the ISO's that say 
"shrike-i386-disc" as below

NOT what you need:
shrike-SRPMS-disc1.iso 13-Mar-2003 22:39   608M
shrike-SRPMS-disc2.iso 13-Mar-2003 22:43   645M
shrike-SRPMS-disc3.iso 13-Mar-2003 22:46   425M

WHAT you need:
shrike-i386-disc1.iso 03-Sep-2003 17:54   638M
shrike-i386-disc2.iso 13-Mar-2003 22:30   646M
shrike-i386-disc3.iso 13-Mar-2003 22:35   485M

Once you have the correct CD's, you can boot to the first one and run 
the installer without knowing any DOS or Linux command-line commands.   
In fact, you don't ever have to touch a command line in Red Hat 9 if 
you don't want to.  You can read up on the downloading and installation 
process at:
