usb epson scanner

i have tried to use the sane-find-scanner utility, but it reports that it can 
not find the scanner. i tried to recompile the kernel to use the usbscanner 
module, but i get errors during make modules.

in the 2.6 test kernel i have, there is a section on image, i really havent 
looked closely at that section to see if it involves scanners or not. i am 
unable to install redhat witht the scanner plugged in to the usb port.

any ideas would be appreciated at this time.
