Hi,
Just did a fresh install of RH9 - coming from RH7.3. The install went much
smoother and faster - who knew they'd improve things as they go ;)
Ok, so here's where it gets ugly - I'm not really a fan of the whole
Bluecurve thing and prefer Gnome - which I had running nicely on RH7.3. So
off to gnome.org I go, d/l all the source files - only to find that none
can be made into rpm's ... so I continue my hunt to find rpm's for Gnome
2.4.0 (which take an additional 2 days to d/l). Now I've got 520 files and
284megs of Gnome RPM's ... now what? In RH7.3 I remember doing a simple:
rpm -ivh *.rpm and it all just installed like magic - however when I do
that with RH9 I'm told that either most things are there, or they won't
install.
Then I go onto the machine itself (I'd been doing the install from my main
machine using PuTty through SSH to get to the linux machine) and start
clicking on the rpm files individually - when I am confronted with the
reason for the mass install not working for me ... each file is dependent
upon the other and the next and the one over there ...
Now being that I like to mess around with stuff - and it is just a test
machine, so if it gets broken, no big I'll just re-install ... how would I
go about installing Gnome 2.4.0 on RH9?
Thanks
-Tim
