Hi
Thanks very much for this information.
When I install the Nic with a static address I can now activate it.
Does anyone know about the network card drivers and the redhat 8 installation ?
I seem to be able to activate my card and ifconfig indicates that it is there and active, yet I have not yet explicitly installed a driver for the card.
Does this mean the Nic driver was built into the kernel on installation and I don't need to explicitly download and install one ? Or can the card be activated without a driver in place ? Does anyone know how I can determine which driver modules are currently built into the kernel ?

Check your "/etc/modules.conf" file. I'll bet you see a line like:

alias eth0 3c59x

If so, then the "modprobe" done at startup time is loading your driver.
