Hi,
this is my first post here on this mailing-list.
I already posted on quite a lot of linux-forums
but none can seem to help me out here.
First i'll give my hardware specs:
motherboard: Asus P4C800 Deluxe
processor: P4 3.0Ghz
memory: 1 GB
HD: Maxtor S-ATA 120Gig
Software: Windows XP professional with 4 partitions: 10Gig, 20 Gig, 20Gig,
20Gig (that leave about 50 Gigs unpartitioned)
my harddrive is connected through SATA to my mainboard.
no IDE for me!
I have downloaded the iso's for both RH8.0 and RH9
and i have burned them on CD.
I have put a linux driver for the Promise Fasttrack 20378 controller on a
diskette.
I have the following problems:
1. when trying to install RH9,
i put in the cd-rom and let my pc boot from cd,
after starting the install with grafical interface, the installation
program (IP) asks for a driver disk (because it can't find my hard drive?).
i insert the diskette, the IP reads the disk and i get a list with
controllers with also "Promise ft3xx ATA Raid" in it (that's mine!!
at least i think, but didn't i put my hd on SATA-connection?)... after
selecting it, the IP still says that no drivers are loaded.
when i press continue i can get to the part where the installation
program asks me if i want to partition my hd myself or let linux
do it for me. either selection gets me an error-message stating: No
Harddrive found!
Does anyone have an idea? when looking at the readme of the Promise
Fasttrack 20378-controller it says it can only be used by RH8.0 and
RH7.3. and this is where my second problem comes in...
2. when trying to install RH8,
i put in the cd-rom,
again i have to put the driver disk in,
the driver get loaded (i think) but then i get the question: Which media
contains the packages to be installed?
as with the install of RH9, i suspected that i would have some options
like: HARD DRIVE, CD ROM, FTP, HTTP...
but the only option i have is 'HARD DRIVE' but i want to install from
CD!
Also, when selecting HARD DRIVE it says there are 2 HDs that might
contain those packages (at least according to the install program)
The funny thing is i only have that Maxtor-HD.
Can anyone help me please?
I really want that linux on my system...
With kind regards,
