Unable to connect to DNS server.

Subject:
Unable to connect to the DNS server

Atleast thats what I think the problem is. I read
quite a few mails in the archive, sent by individuals
who were unable to connect to the internet. I recently
upgraded my Linux box from RH 7.3 to RH8.0. Since the
upgrade, I have not been able to access the internet
(things were working perfectly fine before it). Also I
am using an external modem. I read quite a few mails
that said that people using internal modems weren't
able to connect to the internet.

My ISP is vsnl, and I have set the IP address of DNS
servers at VSNL in my resolv.conf file. I have also
configured my modem and my internet connection
correctly since I can ping the VSNL server. As
mentioned in one of the mails in the archive I also
issued the following (/sbin/ifconfig) to check
whether or not I was really connected. The reults were
+ve and I could ping back to the server reported by
(/sbin/ifconfig). I would therefore think the
problem lies in resolver modules being able to contact
the DNS server.

I have been reading the HowTos but for some reason
dont see where the problem lies. Any suggestion /
leads would be most welcome.

Thanks and regards
Arvind
