The SSL certificate for up2date has expired. Go here
to get updated versions,

https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2003-267.html

and install the appropriate version of up2date and up2date-gnome with,

rpm -Fvh up2date*.rpm

Jay and Bob,

Thanks for the suggestions - I'll take them home and work with them as I'm
not running on that machine here at work - still have Win98 moving along -
would prefer RedHat but it's not the company standard.

Thanks,

Brad

And something like "service sendmail status" as root should check that. Or
"ps -aux | grep sendmail" as any user will show you.

Thanks, we put a new fan in last night to try to get more air circulating.
My son likes it as it has blue LED's that shine out the air holes.

I'll let you know if it helps and if I remember where I put my notes to
remind me to let you know.

Brad,
I've seen reports in the past that these sensors may only be good to
within 10 degrees C anyway, so you might be running 29C or 49C. Who knows?
;-)

That said, it's a good idea to keep an eye on your systems and maybe keep
records if you're prone to forgetfulness like me. That way you have
something to review if problems arise.

Cheers,
Mark

syslog is running with the -r option (see above) which allows it to accept
logging messages. When I had this problem it was because of the firewall,
check that port 514 is open through you firewall. And to be doubly sure
check with:
       ps -ef|grep syslog
to make sure the -r option is present (this is the default so it probably
is)

Oh, yeah I had to add a line to syslog.conf to log the "daemon.debug"
messages since that is what my router was sending. I found this out by
adding a line logging *.* to a file /var/log/everything. (Add the line:
*.*	/var/log/everything
to syslog.conf)
I have found this useful enough to have kept it around. (But remember to add
it to the logrotate.conf)

That's great - however my Evolution and Mozilla won't work either so I had
to move to a WINDOWS XP and use XP to find out.

How do I get out of this fix, if RH 9.0 can't access the internet?

Any help is welcome.

Well, after a day of research, I found the steps in bugzilla. I did EXACTLY
what was listed there...

Well, here is a use of --force again. Why, and what does this do? The man
page says --force is the same as --replacepackages

is that rpm -Uvh or the rpmbuild --rebuild command you are referring to?

I always assumed that they would be better optimised for my hardware if I
built them myself. In the past, many people on this list and others have
indicated it is better to build your own than to take just any rpm/

Maybe that isn't true for RedHat's rpms though??
