this external modem, is it attached to a com port or to a usb port? if it is 
attached to a com port, (the plug is kinda squarish with holes in it), then 
you might have told it it the wrong device, i do not know of any external com 
port modems that need drivers.

if it is plugged into a usb port, good luck, on finding a driver for it.
