How can I use a Lexmark Printer in Linux?

Hello,

I am running Redhat 9 with Gnome and I have a Lexmark X-63 combo
printer/scanner/copier. It is able to make copies without the computer
turned on, and I don't scan images very often, so I don't mind switching
to windows to do that. I am mostly concerned with getting it to print
under Linux so I do not have to reboot to windows to make it print.

Lexmark does not make Linux drivers. I have tried the gimp-print and
gimp-print-ijs drivers under RH8 and RH9. They are the only ones that
will spool anything to the printer, but all it prints is pages and pages
of trash in all sorts of colors.

I have wine, but if possible, I would prefer a way to make the printer
work through a native linux or Gnome spoolers rather than setting up a
complicated windows printing system through wine.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Andrew
