Re: Mp3 player

Can I ask a silly question please ? Why did they remove mp3 support from XMMS to begin with ? Was it a legal issue ? It had mp3 support to begin with. Why would they remove it ?

Also, I know that many of xmms's features are driven by a plug-in paradigm. Was it a plug-in issue ?

I am just generally curious as to why xmms lost it's mp3 support.

Hi guys
I was wondering if anyone could reccomend a good mp3 player for RH 9.0?
I've tried Xmms 1.2.8 but it won't play my mp3s and I've tried Winamp
alpha but it's way to buggy.

There are actually RPMs to re-add the MP1/2/3 support at:

http://havardk.xmms.org/dist/xmms-1.2.7-rh8-rh9-rpm/

They'll add mpeg layer 1/2/3 support.

Apparently Thomson not Fraunhofer is the site to check out:

Basically, if Redhat put the support in, it'd cost them royalties.
