not the answer but I use 'poweroff' from the
console, and it does.
I've just joined the list, so I've joined this thread in the middle, but
I presume the original poster wants his machine to actually power off
when he does shutdown -h? If that is the case... has someone mentioned
the apm=on kernel parameter yet? I'm new to redhat, but that is how it
was achieved with debian, in my case..
