With this old a computer, plus the fact that it has ISA slots, it is a
good possibly that he has an ISA sound card. Which would explain why the
sound card is not shown in the lspci output.

If you  still have the manual for your computer, look in it and see it
if tells you what sound card you have. Or open the case and look.

You might also look in /var/log/messages and see if the kernel is seeing
the card at all.
