I am trying to configure my on board network card to use my broadband
connection in Redhat 9. I am getting the following error

Command Failed
/sbin/modprobe cdc ethernet class
Can't locate module CDC Ethernet class

I had a previous install of RH9 in the same system and had no
problems. The only thing that has changed is the HD. All help would be
appreciated I'm a Linux NewbieFYI I am unable to access my CD Drives to

get

the manuals loaded but, that is an issue I'll work on after this

See below For

1.) the contents of /etc/modules.conf

2.) the output of dmesg

3.) the output from LSPCI

4.) the error I get at bootup at the eth0 strartup

The TEXT FROM LSPCI And the Error I get at boot up

1.)Contents of Modules.conf

alias usb-controller1 ehci-hcd
alias eth0 CDC Ethernet Class

            ------------------
That's highly non-standard.

2.) the output of dmesg - Large

Umm, where's the output from "lspci"? That's what we really need,
now.

There it is. I should have requested "lspci -v", but that may be enough. I checked the RH hardware compat list, and it isn't there. And given how tight-fisted nVidia has been with their video specs, you might well do better to buy a supported network card.

Maybe someone has a better solution than that.

You need the nvnet.o driver. You need to go to nVidia's website and
download the source tarball, build and install the network driver.
It's not hard.

I have versions for kernels 2.4.20-13.9, -18.9, -19.9, -20.9 and
2.4.20-8 (the RH9 release kernel). I've only built them for the
uniprocessor Athlon system. If you want, I can post them to the
RHIL ftp site.

Oh, if you can tell me what your system is, I can build a version FOR you (I need your kernel version, processor type and whether you're using SMP or not). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- - Rick Stevens, Senior Systems Engineer rstevens vitalstream com - - VitalStream, Inc. http://www.vitalstream.com - - - - Errors have occurred.
