Does anyone know the correct way of setting up remote printing using CUPS?
On a RH EL 3 Update 2 system A, I have enabled CUPS and configured some
print queues. They work okay.
On another RH EL3 Update 2 system B, I tried to enable this system as a
print client and print using the print queues set up on Box A.
On Box B,
lpc status returns an empty list
So I invoked the web interface and after entering the root account details,
I can see a list of print queues set up on server A.
Still lpc status returns an empty list
But lpq -Pqueue1 A
does show a response from A and reveals the queue status.
(I cannot tell whether the use of the web interface has any bearing to
this.)
In order to allow a more user-friendly and transparant print queue syntax, I
followed the admin manual to modify client.conf to add
ServerName A
Now both lpq -Pqueue and
lpq -Pqueue A fail with unknown destination
So I removed the ServerName A entry in client.conf.
Now, lpc status returns a list of print queues, apart from the class queue.
So, I would like to know the correct steps to enable remote printing using
CUPS.
Furthermore, on the client B
lpq/lpr -Pclass-queue A
works, but
lpq -Pclass-queue fails with cleint-error-not-found
whereas non-class queues work okay.
