Watch /var/log/messages (tail -f /var/log/messages) while you plug it
in to the USB port to see what it reports. I'm guessing that it's
coming up as something other than /dev/sda1.
After you plug it in, look at /etc/fstab to see if a new entry showed
up.
Let us know what you find.
