Next time you'll know better.
Speaking of knowing better I typed "ed myfile" on tty1 and can't figure
out how to get out of it. Now it appears that the session is lost, yet
the screen is frozen e.g.
[root penguin marty]# ps -ax|grep tty
1616 tty4 S 0:00 /sbin/mingetty tty4
1617 tty5 S 0:00 /sbin/mingetty tty5
1618 tty6 S 0:00 /sbin/mingetty tty6
16891 tty1 S 0:00 /sbin/mingetty tty1
16898 tty3 S 0:00 -bash
16956 tty2 S 0:00 /sbin/mingetty tty2
17031 pts/0 S 0:00 grep tty
To get out of ed, enter ":q" or just "q".
You can try "kill -9 16891" to kill the mingetty on tty1, if that's
what you want to do. I doubt that's it. tty1 is the console "ALT-F1".
You know that, right?
Remember that the process may have been orphaned, so "ps -ax | grep ed"
to see if it's still alive. If so, kill it with "kill -9".
Hey, now that I can ssh into that box I feel so empowered.
Neat, eh?
