ethernet card for rh8.0 laptop

I got a laptop from my cousin it has rh8.0 installed and has a mobile pentium 2 processor.
it had a 3com ethernet card on eth0 and then i bought a new ethernet card just so that i didn't require to use a dongle cable anymore.
i got a dlink dfe-690txd fast ethernet card.btu when i opeend the box it didn't hav drivers for linux and then i saw online drivers were avaiable for kernel version 2.2 only while mine is 2.4
so i decided to take ti back in the mean while for the short period i had put the new ethernet card in,i used the DMESG command and it showed me the name of this new ethernet card.so am all confused has the driver been automatically been loaded by kudzu.....am new to linux so excuse me if i am talking all crap.i need help.do i need to return it or is there a way it can be fixed.
thank you
regards,
kapil

There you will find HowTo's for about every aspect of networking you will
need to set your box up to do what you need, from getting IP Masqurading
going, to bandwidth limitting, to DNS, to... You'll want to start with:
