Actually, I think that is a BSD-ism. Perhaps you need the primitive
"cu" (call unix), or the more pleasant "minicom". You will likely
want to run "minicom -s" as root first to set some defaults, then you
can invoke "minicom" as a mere mortal (or root, if you must).
