That is correct.  I've not heard of that arrangement ever working.

Correct, again.  MS thinks it is the only OS in the world and has no
interest in booting any other.

That's a hard way to make it work, and I don't know how to unless you
have it install GRUB in the MBR of /dev/hdb, but switching boot drives
in the BIOS is a PITA.
