Uh, what we're really talking about here is "NAT" (network address
translation), despite what you might call it. If a request comes in
for port 21 on the WAN address, the router rewrites the destination
address to the one on the LAN side. Data going the opposite direction
gets changed in the same way (the sending address gets replaced by the
WAN address by the router on the way out).
