Re: Scanner permissions - works as root, but not user

I have a Epson Perfection 1670 scanner
that I __FINALLY__ got to work on my RH8.0 box.
Had to do some ugly "rpm --force --nodeps" to get it going,
and it might come back and bite me, but it works.

Now my problem is, it'll work fine as root, but I get
"no scanner found" when running it as a regular user.
I'm SURE this is a permission problem, but cannot figure
which one.

/dev/usb/scanner0 was chmod 600 and I changed it to 666
I had to add /etc/sane.d/esfw30.bin firmware, and edit
/etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf to tell it it was there.

/etc/sane.d/esfw30.bin was 600 and I changed it to 666
/etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf was 644 and I left it as is.

I'm not sure where else to look.

Some of the backends REQUIRE root permissions (e.g. several of the Mustek SCSI or USB backends). Not much you can do about it unless you set up a script that does an "sudo" to run it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- - Rick Stevens, Senior Systems Engineer rstevens vitalstream com - - VitalStream, Inc. http://www.vitalstream.com - - - - Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the - - reader...who doesn't get it. - ----------------------------------------------------------------------
