Sure. I actually have a system here that a client hosed. They wrote their website on windows (where filenames aren't case sensitive) and actually run the site using Apache on Linux (where filenames ARE case sensitive), so the site didn't work.

I'm sort of going through all this so I can keep editing my source in Textpad on windows and skip that extra step of using an ftp client to port the changes over to the unix server. It's all on the lan but still I think editing samba shares directly will be much easier. This shouldn't give me any conflicts either afaik, then again haven't started doing it this way yet.

Aw, it should be fine. If you're vi-shy and want something that's notepadish, why not try "gedit" (under Gnome) or "kedit" (under KDE). Both are simple (don't use the what-some-may-call-arcane command syntax of vi/vim), fast, and fully GUI. Try 'em, you'll like 'em!

Before even installing fbsd and linux I first installed Apache and Mysql on my XP workstation and actually got a development environment working properly. But it was for a Unix hosted website and the differences made me do so many little kludgey accommodations to hold it all together that I ended up going the route of installing unix.

Ah, but you'll be a better person for using Linux. Trust me! ;-)

Likely more than you wanted to know Rick.
