If there is another good kernel on the machine, and it is the
currently running kernel, yes, just

  rpm -e kernel-smp-2.6.9-1.3_FC2

I don't think that's recommended.  There are a lot of other things on
your system that are 2.4-specific, which would have to be replaced
with 2.6-specific stuff.

Why not just upgrade the system to FC2 or FC3?
