Kickstart install @core only

I'm using kickstart with PXE boot to install a small <500 MB image. ..
I think I want to just install the @core package group but it seams
that @core is always sucking in @base which is pushing me over the
size edge. Looking at the install package size of everything in @core
I should be well under 500MB.

My questions are ..

1. Is it possible to just install the @core package group ?

2. Could I simply install a set of rpms .. no groups .. all the rpms
in the core group say?
