Errr.. yes.
As I was saying, these are new servers which I'm configuring, servers
which I haven't yet added to my nameservers. It turned out to be a
resolution problem, but not necessarily the one that Rick was pointing
me towards in his reply.
For the sake of saving me a lot of keystrokes during config, I had
simply added the new machines to the hosts file on my workstation and
had quite simply mistyped and never noticed the mistake.
I was attempting to contact IP addresses which didn't/don't exist.
Too many irons, too many fires.

I miss Gilligan, actually. Sometimes it's fun to watch an episode and
mentally superimpose Maynard over Gilligan.
