Suche in /etc/XF86Config folgende Zeilen:

Section "Screen"
   Driver          "SVGA"
   Device          "Primary Card"
   Monitor         "Primary Monitor"
   DefaultColorDepth 16
   SubSection "Display"
      Depth        8
      Modes        "1280x1024"
   EndSubSection
   SubSection
"Display"                                                         
(...)
--------------------------------------

Und ändere dort "DefaultColorDepth 16" in "DefaultColorDepth 32" oder
"..24".
Dann X restarten, fertig.
