All,
I had a system blow-up due to a failed install attempt with StarOffice
5.0. It wanted to redo the loader to make it a newer version which then
had a problem with my older libs. I'm back up but limping. There are two
weird problems:
1) depmod -a in rc.sysinit fails with: modprobe: not an ELF file
- system is in cripple mode due to modules not loading, how due I
determine what
it's complaining about and rebuild the dependency list? The
dependency file itself got
deleted and depmod won't build a new one. I'm sending this from my
old Mac.
2) CDROM access is working oddly, an ls -l on /dev/cdrom returns:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 May 25 1998 /dev/cdrom ->
hdd
- is this normal? I have two IDE hard drives on hda and hdc so the the
hdd is probably
okay butwmcdplay (WindowMaker dock app) now always says there is a
data disk in the
CDROM drive even when it's empty. It's a normal IDE CDROM on the
secondary IDE chain. I
can use other utilities to play audio CD's.
This is RedHat 5.0.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Tom.
