erasing swap and RAM manually ?

Hello,

I am very curious if this is possible to control the process of erasing of
swap and RAM when the application is unloaded. It seems to me that when
some bulky application like Netscape or StarOffice is unloaded swap
remains used by them for rather long. In the meantime RAM is not
exhausted. Is there any way to make Linux free swap and move everything it
really needs to RAM?

Alexei
