Re: question for you experts!

Hi Alan,

yep, what you're trying to do is entirely posible...

You need several things,

1) The dial up connection -> you seem to have that okay,

your browser would point to the proxy of your ISP.

I use netscape 4.05, so that would be under

   Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Proxies->Manual Proxy Configuration

set this as the ISP's proxy IP address.

2) You would do the same as above for the Network Card, but have it
point to your linux box's IP address instead.

3) You'll need to be running a proxy server to forward the IP requests
on via. the linux box, I think ipfwadm does this (haven't tried it as
   yet).

The annoying bit is to be setting IP's every time you change your
access method, to get around this in Netscape, you can setup two user
profiles. These are selectable when you start Netscape so you
should be okay.

Right now I have this scenario going for our department, but I'm
proxying all internet traffic to a Windows 95 based PC running a proxy
server.

If you do get this going with ipfwadm I wouldn't mind any feedback
from you. I'll be replacing the Windows95 proxy box soon with Linux...

Oh, the proxy we use is from ositis software and it's called Winproxy,

they have trail versions available, their web site is www.winproxy.com
or www.ositis.com

Hope this helps,

Ahbaid.
