"linux single" security concern

I work at a cybercafe where we are considering setting up several linux
machines in addition to our current Windows98 machines. We will most
certainly be using Red Hat 5.2 for this, but I am concerned by the fact that
under the default install, it is possible to type "linux single" at the lilo
prompt and boot into a root shell with no password. I know it is possible
to add a password to the lilo.conf file to disable this, but I would much
rather allow it to work BUT ask for the super-user password before going on
to the shell. Is this possible? If anyone has any ideas please let me
know, along with any other tips on securing a machine that we will be
allowing the general public to use, sometimes without very close
supervision.
Thanks in advance,
Adam Alexander
