Yeah, I'm new to Linux, too.  You haven't seen the worst of the above.
For some reason, I had the first library already installed, and
someone told me how to find guile and XmHTML.  Guile wasn't so bad,
but XmHTML needs a zillion things of its own to work.

I gave up on Gnucash until it's ready for users, rather than
developers.

In fact, I've decided that if it doesn't come in an RPM, I'll pass on
it.  I know I'll miss a lot of neat, hot stuff, but I just don't have
the time to spend or the patience to put up with the frustration.
