Newbie question: Partitioning and SAMBA

Hello all,

I've just recently started to test RH 5.1. I've read the LDP FAQ on System
Administration, but I would like help or pointers on more detailed
information concerning partitioning.

I've got an old NT box that has a 1 GB drive in a 400 MB FAT partition and
a 600 MB ex2 partition. I also had a 160 MB drive that I used 130 MB to
install a swap partition.

fdisk /dev/hda with p option gives this information:

Device Boot	Begin	Start	End	Blocks	Id	System
/dev/hda1	*	1	1	204	411232+	6	DOS 16bit >=32M
/dev/hda2		205	205	525	647136	5	Extended
/dev/hda5		205	205	525	647104+	83	Linux native

where Units = cylinders of 4032 * 512 bytes

fdisk /dev/hdb with p option gives this information:

/dev/hdb1	*	1	1	1009	332942+	6	DOS 16bit >=32M

I would like guidance/pointers on the following:

1)	I set up with disk druid a single 600 MB Linux partition. Why do I
have /dev/hda2 and /dev/hda5, and why the discrepancy in blocks?

2)	I would like to convert my 400 MB DOS partition to root to convert
this box entirely to Linux, if possible, without reinstalling.

3)	I'd like to mount and/or map /home, /var, and /usr onto /dev/hda2,
keeping /dev/hda1 devoted to root.

4)	I'd like to create a LINUX swap partition on the 300 MB /dev/hdb1
using 120 MB.

5)	I'd like to use the rest of /dev/hdb1 for /usr/local

6)	I'd like to use SAMBA packages in RPM to connect up with the rest
of my NT network.

Am I on the right track here? Any better suggestions?

Thanks,
