Font Convertors

Greetings

I've checked out Altavista and other search bizzos, but does anyone know
of a program (preferably free) that will convert True Type fonts into
the generic ones used by X and Linux in general...the xsftt server keeps
dumping core on me, no matter how I tweak it, so I've given up on
it..here's to X having the font selection simplicity of Windoze one day,
one good thing out of a hundred bad things re: 95/98...
