Hmm. Just tried xminicom here, and typed characters come back
in less than a second. minicom-1.81-4.i386.rpm is what I'm running.
I think you will find the problem is not minicom (or xminicom).
It is probably the configuration you are using, or there is something
wrong at your ISP. Make sure nothing else is using your modem or
serial port - diald, ppp, mgetty, etc.
Here is the simplest program for using the modem, assuming it is on
COM3:
# cu -l /dev/cua2 -s 38400
Type in atdt<phone number><return>
and you should be talking to your ISP.
