RE: Cable Modem Part 2

You are going to need several pieces of info. If you're running Win9x you
should be able to get most from it.

First, do you know if your isp is using dhcp or do you have a static address?
If you have a static address, do you now what it is? Do you know your host
name and domain name? How about your gateway?

In Win9x click on the start icon (bottom left) and click on run. When the
window opens type in winipcfg (I think that's the command). You should have a
nice window open that will likely show you your ppp connection.

If your ethernet card has been properly connected you should be able to select
it and then select the 'more information' button. This should tell you
everything you need to know in the way of dns servers, ip address, domain/host
name, gateway etc.

Copy everything and then go back to Linux. Log in as root and select the
network icon in the control panel. You should be able to take all your new
found data and plug it in. Restart and you should be talking to the cable
modem. Make sure you put in the default device (etho) and the defualt gateway
correctly.
