X windows problem/kernel 2.0.35

Hi - this is related to an earlier mail I sent regarding the
Adaptec 2920C controller and HP 5000i tape drive.

I have found that upgrading to 2.0.35 and using the latest
rev of Doug Ledford's AIC7xxx driver solved my 
problem. The tape drive works just fine now. (!!) :)

On the other hand, attempting to start X now gives me a
fatal error, can't connect to server (error 111) message, and
this happens with the new kernels I've built here. I've been
building kernels for a while, so I figure I've gotten all
the proper options correct, but this stumps me. X will run
fine *if* I boot from the 5.1 stock kernel, but I can't use
that kernel; apparently support for CSLIP is not there.

Right now I need an extra power adapter, so my CD Rom is not
connected, but the tape drive is :). Anyhow, if someone can
send me a .config file or two so I can compare notes as to
what setting I might have missed. Here's my current .config:

On the other hand, I don't see what (apart from localhost
support) that I'd have to define in the kernel config that
would otherwise affect X. Like I said, I'm stumped.... :(
