AWE64 ordeal

The first time I installed RH 5.1 Kernel 2.0.34, installation was breeze. I configured my AWE 64 and everything on the sound front was perfect!. A few days later, I messed up my system and I had to re-install RH 5.1 without LILO.
I am using now a boot disk to start up my RH 5.1 system. However, I can no longer get my Creative SB AWE64 PnP to work with RH 5.1 now.

Whenever, I run Sound Configuration Utilty 0.21 from nxterm, I ended up with an error message while running ModProbe.

I will describe the whole procedure...

PnP Probe Results

A SoundBlaster PnP sound card was found in your system. The details are:
Model: Creative SB AWE64 PnP

Card Type
Please select your card:
Sound Blaster 64
OK

Card Settings

Your sound card is a PnP device, so its settings can be configured w/o setting any dip switches. Choose the values you would like to use from the menus below.

IO PORT IRQ 8-bit DMA 16-bit DMA
0x220 2 0 5
0x240 5 1 6
0x260 7 3 7
0x280 10

My first choice was:
IO Port : 0x220
IRQ : 5
8-bit DMA : 1
16-bit DMA : 5

Later on, upon seeing the modprobe error, I tried to experiment with other settings but it proved to be in vain!

After selecting card settings (still NO error at this stage), a message on the screen appears telling me

FILE EXISTS

There is already a file called /etc/conf.modules. The existing file will be renamed /etc/conf.modules.bak and a new file will be written.
OK

SOUNDCARD TEST

A sound sample will now be played to determine if your sound card has been correctly configured.
OK

MODPROBE

An error was encountered running the modprobe program.
I cllick on OK and I am sent back to card settings!!!.

I miss playing music on my CD and having a go at XGalaga which does not work at presnt!

HOW CAN I OVERCOME THIS PROBLEM?
HELP!

NOTE.- I don't know whether it's relevant but I am enclosing some info about my AWE64 according to a Win95 diagnostics tool:

CRAETIVE AWE64 16-BIT AUDIO (SB16 COMPATIBLE)
