The cause is probably Eudora-specific. Eudora allows you to type a nickname
on the address lines of a message, which it then matches against it's
address book. If the nickname matches to an address book entry that has an
empty address field, then Eudora will send "RCPT TO:<>" to the SMTP server.

Even if the nickname looks like an email address Eudora will still attempt
to match it in the address book. The uer must make sure there are no
nicknames in the address book that have empty addresses associated with
them.
