If I uderstand your question correctly, you can't. The symbolic links you
refer to are a part of the System V style of init that RH is running. I'm only
familiar with older Slackwares and at that time they were using a BSD style
init that used an rc script standard for startup. You actually can dispense
with the sym links but only by kludging the standard Sys V way of doing
business. This would insure that your system was incompatible with the vast
majority of RH systems and you should avoid doing this. If you will give us
some idea of the deamon you want to autostart we can show you how to do
it in approved style.
