No, no, no. Don't upgrade it may go horribly wrong. You're better of
installing the new kernel and adding an entry to lilo.conf to allow you to
select it at boot time. Then when you are sure the kernel is OK and works
as you expect, remove the old kernel from lilo and make the new one the
default. You can then rpm -e the original kernel. RedHat have instructions
on their website for this or refer to the lilo howto to see how to add
another kernel.
You only need ibcs if you want to run binaries that were not built
specifically for linux, for some other UNIX that is. PCMCIA is only needed
if you use a laptop, or a very odd Desktop with a PC Card add on. You also
only need the source if you want to build your own kernel.
