I think that the first thing to do is to run the kdm , so your users login
in graphic mode, then you must creat the .Xclients file in each account
with the line /opt/kde/bin/startkde , be shure to put the u+x permission
and see if the .xsession or .xinitrc files don't start another windows
manager.
