RE: Upgrade to my hardware, backing up linux

You shouldn't have to change anything on the hard drive, let alone
re-install Linux, assuming that you have an ordinary intel build
of the kernel, since this will work as-is on the Celeron, and should
also work on the Cyrix or AMD chips. Just take the old motherboard
out, put the new one in, re-install your cards, hookup the drive and
you should be good to go. In terms of price-performance, the K6-2 is
a good buy.

Subject:	Upgrade to my hardware, backing up linux

I have been looking at picking up a new BH6 motherboard and
a Celeron 300a CPU. This would be an upgrade from my present
Pentium 166MMX system. I have also been concerned about the
fate of my well-setup RH 5.1 system. I started with (and have)
the RH 5.0 CD but am now beyond that in every way. Is there
some way I can avoid having to totally reinstall linux after
replacing my motherboard and CPU? I would love to avoid having
to start all over again from RH 5.0 and working up to all the
updates that I now have with my kernel 2.0.35 system.

What would be the best way to do this while minimizing the
pain? I already know I will have to reinstall Winbloze 95 and
OS/2 but that is much less daunting than having to start all
over again with linux.

We have seen pictures where there are canals, we believe, and
water. If there is water, there is oxygen. If oxygen, that
means we can breathe.
