Hi
3 of my colleagues purchased PCs to use from home with Linux.
Unfortunately they were supplied with HSP modems, no good of course.
So we recently purchased 3 x Pace 56 kbps internal fax/data modems.
Since the manual says this modem works with Win 3.1 / Dos I'm pretty
sure it's not a Winmodem, though the "features" include "16550 UART
emulation", i'm told this emulation is in hardware. Other feautres
include PnP and flash upgradable.
These guys have tried unsuccessfully to get them configured under
Linux, they works fine under Windoze 98. So they asked me to help
out. There is no jumper on the modem to disable PnP, but I can
disable PnP through the BIOS?
What steps should I be taking to configure these modems. How much
(and which) information from the Win 98 settings will be useful, and
how do I find out that info (i know bugger all about win 98!). Is it
better with BIOS PnP off or on? Since I have to visit these guys
homes to do this I won't have any inet access while I'm there, I'd
like to go fully armed with all thge info I need!! On my own system
my modem "just worked" first time on COM2 | /dev/ttyS1 , admittedly
this is an old machine with old hardware, was I just lucky?
Cheers
Kev
