While I don't know if there is a safe way to re-allocate the
existing partitions, I know that most of us have been ruined by our
experiances with the quarks of Windows. To me the most amazing thing about
Linux is that virtually all of the software does pretty much exactly what
one expects it to do.
What I did when it came time to reconfigure my system was to back
up my data and the majority of my configuration files. While I sweated it
the first few times, getting back up and running turned out to be a "walk
in the park" as Tar works...
