corrupt fonts with generic s3virge video card with the 375chipset running at 24bppp

Hello fellow Penguins:

I don't know why but every time i, "startx -- -bpp 24"  my fonts become corrupt.  I've tried using the s3V and SVGA for the accelerated server, neither helps.

Does anybody else have this problem.  It's not my video card, I've already received a new replacement card.  Any suggestions, as I like running 24 bpp,

because i can the big screen size and good color, 16 bpp is less desirable.  32 bpp works fine, but the screen size  is to big.
