Re: Errata not working

Here is how I solved that exact problem:

That's the problem: you need to 'upgrade' not 'install'.
You probably don't need to compile anything -
the modules can do most everything.

Have two directories of rpms called Normal and Other.
Start with all your update rpms in Normal.

Remove rpm-2.5.3-5.1.i386.rpm (it breaks glint)
Keep rpm-2.5.2-1.i386.rpm (it works fine)

Then move the following from Normal to Other:
   *2.0.35*.rpm
   XFree*.rpm
   *devel*.rpm

1. Go into Normal, and run rpm -Uvh *.rpm
Doing all these at once should solve most dependency problems.
Ignore complaints of "that version already installed".
2. Exit from Xwindows, kill Xwindows and xdm.
3. Go into Other and do
     rpm -Uvh XFree3.3* XFree*dpi* XFree*libs* XFree-VIDEO
where VIDEO is the one that supports your video card.

This updates everything you need, except the 2.0.35 kernel.
I had to do a lot of manual steps to get the new kernel working,
so I'll be silent and hope someone else found a clean and simple way.
